CRISPY AND HEALTHY OVEN-BAKED ZUCCHINI CHIPS

These fascinating zucchini chips are a great alternative for fries and potato chips. They are oven-baked and crispy, irresistible, and delicious. In addition to their fantastic test, they are also easy to make and belong to healthy snacks. You don’t need too many ingredients to make them.

If you are fond of the salty and crispy snacks, these zucchini chips are exactly what you need. When I first tried this recipe, I started eating one after another just to make sure if I had prepared them properly. They tasted great!

Zucchinis have always been among my favorite vegetables. This is one reason for me to adore summer, as they are abundant in summer, though you can buy them from stores all year long. There are lots of zucchini recipes that you will not regret trying. You can even eat them raw, making a delicious salad with cucumber or other veggies.

You can slice and fry them, make wonderful cutlets, to name just a few. Of course, they seem to be healthier than chips, but believe me, these chips are irreplaceable.

So, if you have bought lots of zucchinis and don’t know what to do with them, I strongly recommend you not to throw away and make these oven-baked chips. Give it a try just once, and you won’t regret it. It’s now among my favorite snacks.

Here is a step by step instructions about making it, as well as some important and interesting tips to make the process more effective.

WHAT INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE OVEN-BAKED ZUCCHINI CHIPS

So, what you need for this recipe is just some handy ingredients, including salt, oil, and different kinds of spices such as paprika, cumin, etc. And of course, lots of zucchinis.

Yeah, during the zucchini season, you have lots of them, and this is a fantastic way to waste your zucchinis. When you slice it thin and bake at low heat, it turns into thin rounds of crispy chips. I always lose my self-control when I start eating them.

The making process is also quite easy and fast. Here are the main steps you need to take during the baking process:

First of all, slice your zucchinis and get very thin round slices. Then take a sheet of paper, sandwich the zucchini in it, and try to press it to get rid of as much liquid as possible. This shortens their baking time and makes the zucchinis crispier.

Then take the baking sheet and arrange zucchini slices on it. Pour the olive oil in the bowl and brush all the zucchini slices with it. After this, you should add salt, and if you want, also add some spices. Sprinkle them carefully and don’t oversalt the slices. This is so important. If you sprinkle too much salt, they will be very salty, and you can do nothing. However, if your zucchini chips are already baked, and you think they are not enough salty, you can always add some salt to them. So, be careful with the salt!

And then just transfer the baking sheet into the oven and bake them for 2 hours. Your slices will be baked, when they become brown, and you notice that they are not soggy and are crispy. It’s also possible to store your already baked chips to eat later. For this purpose, you can choose the airtight container but keep them no more than 2-3 days.

As you notice, the process was as ABC. But I also have some tips for you that you can follow to make them crispier and more delicious, and also to avoid soggy chips.

WHAT KIND OF ZUCCHINI WORKS BEST FOR THIS RECIPE

What refers to the size of the zucchini, you can choose anything you want. But I recommend large ones. In this case, you will get large slices. As zucchinis shrink when baked in the oven, in my opinion, the large slices will work better. And one more thing about the size; the large zucchinis are usually drier than the others, so this will also make your chips crispier.

PAY ATTENTION TO THEM WHEN THE CHIPS ARE IN THE OVEN

When you have already transferred the zucchini chips in the oven, don’t move away from them entirely and return after 2 hours. Check up several times, not to end up with burnt chips.

HOW TO SLICE THEM PERFECTLY

For slicing the zucchinis, I recommend you use a mandolin slicer. With the help of it, your zucchini chips will not only taste wonderful but also look wonderful; you get uniform slices of chips.

WHAT ABOUT THE SPICES?

As I have already mentioned, you can use any kind of spice. For me, cumin and paprika work best. Just make sure, you don’t overseason them.

HOW TO HANDLE THE BAKING PROCESS?

When you bake it, after some time, many of the slices can be ready to remove, but some soggy and raw ones might have also remained. So what can you do in this case? Just remove the crispy ones from the baking sheet and return the soggy ones back into the oven.

In this case, you will avoid both burnt and soggy chips.

BE PATIENT!

You must be tolerant of your zucchini chips. If you just cannot wait to try them and want to remove the chips from the oven too quickly, you will end up with underbaked soggy chips. They may stick to the parchment because you have not waited for enough so that they become crispy. Also, if you take the baking sheet from the oven, let the parchment cool for 10-15 minutes and only then try to remove the chips from the parchment paper.

USE SEVERAL TRICKS TO MAKE THEM DRIER

There are several ways you can use to squeeze liquid from your zucchini slices to make them more crunchy. One of them I have already explained. Use paper towels to press out the slices and exceed the liquid from it.

I think these tips will be quite helpful for you during the baking process. These addictive but at the same time, quite healthy chips will make your day. And this was all about their baking process.

And in the end, you can get the whole recipe, which I leave below the text.

RECIPE FOR OVEN-BAKED ZUCCHINI CHIPS

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large or medium-sized zucchinis
  • Olive oil, for brushing the zucchini slices
  • Salt to sprinkle over the slices (sea salt or kosher salt would be great)
  • Spices optional (paprika, cumin, ground black pepper, etc.

BAKING PROCESS

Here is the step by step explanation of the whole process for baking the chips

  1. First of all, you need to preheat the oven. 225 degrees Fahrenheit is what you need for baking them. Take silicon baking mats and use them to line up the baking sheet. You can also use parchment paper instead of silicone baking mats.
  2. Now it’s time to slice the zucchinis. Remember, that large slices work better, so give preference to large zucchinis. To make the slices look similar and also to ease the slicing process, use the mandolin. However, you can also slice by hand if you don’t have a mandolin.
  3. After slicing the zucchinis, you need to squeeze the liquid from them as much as possible. For this purpose, you can use paper towels, sandwich the zucchini slices on both sides with a towel, and press on them. This shortens the baking time and makes your chips crunchier.
  4. It’s high time to arrange the zucchini chips on the baking sheets. Be careful not to overlap them. When you finish you can brush them with olive oil.
  5. So, take a mixing bowl, and pour the oil there. Use kitchen brushes to brush all the slices separately. When all this is done, take the salt and sprinkle over the zucchini slices. It’s also recommended to add some seasonings on your chips, so you can choose whatever you want, but make sure that the spices won’t harm their taste. And in any case, don’t oversalt or overseason the slices.
  6. That’s all. The boring part has come. Transfer the baking sheet into the oven and bake the chips for 2 hours. Yes, you should wait so long to let them bake. It’s very difficult to resist the temptation during the whole baking time, that’s why I called the period boring. Be sure, they worth it.
  7. But don’t take the chips too quickly from the oven. I know, it’s a little bit hard, but you should wait to get the perfect chips. Wait until they become brown and crispy, and only after that take them from the oven. Let them cool for some minutes and serve with some sauces, etc.

You can also store them if you don’t want to eat all the chips at once. Use the airtight container for storing the chips and keep them just for some days, not too much.

I was very delighted to share this fascinating recipe for you. I hope you will succeed in having crispy and mouth-watering chips and enjoy it with your family or friend watching your favorite movies. I am sure they will keep asking you to bake them more often after trying once.

Have a zucchiNICE appetite!
